The Battenkill Lodge offers a year-round trout fishing experience, with the seasons dictating the nuances of the bite. Spring and fall are particularly dynamic, marked by significant insect hatches that bring the wild trout to the surface. Late April, for instance, sees the Hendrickson hatch, a prime time when large trout feed with 'reckless abandon' on mayflies. As the season progresses, other hatches like Blue Winged Olives and Caddis continue to provide opportunities for dry fly fishing, especially in the evenings. The Hoosic River, with its nickname 'Jurassic Park,' is known for consistently producing large Brown trout up to 24 inches and Rainbows up to 20 inches throughout the season. The Owlkill River, a nursery tributary, offers excellent afternoon dry fly activity and can produce larger trout on streamers after heavy rains. Naco Pond provides reliable action for three and four-pound Brown trout, offering a consistent option for anglers.
