What we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
Last updated June 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Meridia ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website, applications, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information: name, email, password (stored as a salted hash), and authentication metadata managed through our authentication provider.
- Profile and preferences: any information you add to your profile, such as favorite species, target waters, or saved destinations.
- Bookings and inquiries: details necessary to process a reservation or inquiry — dates, party size, contact information, and messages to Operators.
- User Content: reviews, photos, and other content you submit.
- Communications: support requests and any other correspondence with us.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: pages viewed, links clicked, referrer, device type, browser, and similar telemetry.
- Approximate location: derived from your IP address, used to surface nearby destinations and conditions. Precise device location is used only with your permission.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see "Cookies and Tracking" below.
Information from third parties
If you sign in through an OAuth provider, we receive basic profile information (name, email, avatar) from that provider as described in their disclosures.
2. How We Use Information
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Create and authenticate your account; secure the Service against fraud and abuse.
- Process bookings and facilitate communication with Operators.
- Personalize content, such as nearby destinations, relevant species, and current fishing conditions.
- Send transactional messages (booking confirmations, security alerts) and, where permitted, marketing communications you can opt out of.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
3. How We Share Information
- Operators: when you make a booking or send an inquiry, we share the information necessary to fulfill it (name, contact details, party details).
- Service providers: hosting, analytics, error monitoring, payment processing, and email delivery vendors who process information on our behalf under appropriate contractual protections.
- Legal and safety: when we believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, or property.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to customary confidentiality.
We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration.
4. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure performance, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may degrade some functionality.
5. Analytics
We use product-analytics tools (including PostHog) to understand feature usage and improve the Service. These tools may collect anonymized event data, IP address, and device information, retained on our behalf under contractual safeguards.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Aggregated or de-identified data may be retained indefinitely.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Choices and Rights
- Access, update, or delete: you can update most account information in your settings, or contact us to request access or deletion.
- Marketing opt-out: unsubscribe links are included in marketing emails; transactional messages will still be sent.
- Regional rights: depending on where you live (for example, California, the EU/UK), you may have additional rights such as the right to object, restrict processing, or request portability. Contact us to exercise these rights.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Users
Meridia is based in the United States, and information we collect is processed in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than your jurisdiction.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will notify you by reasonable means. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
