The fishing year at Patagonia River Ranch kicks off in November and December with the start of early summer. The trout, having recovered from winter, are eager to strike, making this period ideal for streamers, large dry flies, and nymphs targeting sizable trout. The Caleufu River, a guest favorite, is particularly productive during these months, offering both exceptional fishing and stunning scenery. January and February usher in the full heat of Patagonian summer. Water levels recede and temperatures rise, creating perfect conditions for wet wading and an explosion of dry fly activity. Terrestrials like hoppers, ants, and beetles become prime targets, with guides expertly matching these hatches. Streamer fishing remains effective, especially on overcast days, and employing bead-head wooly buggers in the long riffles of the Chimehuin and Collon Cura rivers is a deadly tactic. As autumn arrives in March and April, the landscape transforms with vibrant fall colors. This is when the large brown and rainbow trout, having moved from the lakes into the streams, go into a feeding frenzy to prepare for winter. While March can start with low water, spring thundershowers often replenish levels, leading to active, hungry fish. Dry fly fishing continues to be excellent, particularly in the shallows, and this season is prime time for targeting trophy brown trout with streamers across all the rivers.
