Seasons
Alba Game Fishing offers a year-round pursuit of Scotland's premier game and coarse species, with each season presenting unique opportunities. The spring months, particularly March through May, are prime for Atlantic Salmon, especially the coveted 'springers' that enter rivers like the Tay, Spey, Dee, and Tweed. This is a time of powerful runs and the potential for trophy-sized fish, often taken on the fly with Spey casting techniques. As spring transitions into summer, the focus shifts towards wild brown trout and sea trout. From April through September, the rivers and lochs come alive with rising trout, offering classic dry fly and nymphing opportunities. The Spey, Tweed, and numerous Highland lochs are particularly renowned for their trout populations, with fish often exceeding 5 pounds. Summer also brings opportunities for pike in the warmer, shallower waters, especially in the private lochs near Edinburgh. Autumn, from September through November, is a spectacular time for salmon fishing as the main runs enter the rivers, coinciding with the stunning fall colors. This period also offers excellent opportunities for large, wild grayling on rivers like the Tweed and Teviot, particularly in October and November when the trout fishing wanes. Winter fishing, primarily for grayling and pike, continues through December and January, offering a different, more serene experience in the stark beauty of the Scottish landscape.
