For rivers: 6-7 wt rod with floating and 200-250 grain express sinking tip or full sink, and/or type IV-VI sinking tip lines. Kiwi marabou muddlers, olive, natural, 6; Whitlock's Near'nuff Sculpin, olive, 6; Clouser minnow and marabou minnow, olive/black, tan/white, grey/yellow, 6; conehead marabou muddler, yellow,6; Butt Monkey, size 4,6; conehead bunny leech, olive, yellow, black, 4,6; crystal rubber bugger, olive, black, size 6, w & w/o coneheads, Wood's Special, Grey Ghost and similar minnow patterns. Tres Rios Lodge offers opportunities to catch Atlantic salmon, sea-run brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, and king salmon. You may also encounter king mackerel depending on the specific waters fished.

What should anglers bring?

Anglers should bring: waders, wading boots, wading belt, hat, long sleeve light colored shirt, sunscreen, raingear, and clothing in layers as the weather changes abruptly at times.

The core fishing season at Tres Rios Lodge runs from November through May. Peak Chinook salmon fishing typically occurs from February to April, while resident trout fishing is excellent year-round.

How do I get to the lodge from the airport?

Accepted Answer

Your international flight will arrive at the Santiago airport (SCL) where you will go through immigration and customs. Typically, flights arrive early morning allowing you to continue 1:40 on to Puerto Montt (PMC) that same day. We can help arrange the local flights and sometimes get you better fares than you can get outside Chile.

Tres Rios Lodge operates from Puerto Varas in the Los Lagos region of Chile. They also offer fishing road trips extending south into Patagonia.

What is included in the all-inclusive fly fishing programs?

We provide all ground transportation from the time you arrive at Puerto Montt airport until you leave from there, all meals, all drinks (beer, wine, soft drinks, bottled water, cocktails), lodgings, fly fishing guides, and float fishing excursions. Prices are per person, double occupancy, two anglers per guide and boat. Come and go any day of the week and stay as long as you want. We do not charge for arrival and departure days if time does not permit fishing. Therefore our 6/7 package is comparable to what some call 8/7.

We provide transportation for fishing excursions, guided float trips, fishing gear, breakfast, lunch, and beverages. Airport transfers and fishing licenses are additional.

What is included in daily fly fishing excursions?

$600 per boat for 1 or 2 anglers. Includes: lunch, beverages, transportation, guided float trip, and fishing gear. Not included: fishing license ($20) and guide tip ($75 pp suggested). It's preferable that you bring your own 6 wt. rod for trout or 8-9 wt. rod for salmon. This is not a bargain excursion with bankers hours on the closest stretch of water, but rather a full day on remote waters for dedicated anglers.

Most resident trout we hook are in the 15" to 20" range, and it's a very rare day when anglers don't release, lose, miss, or roll fish over 20".

What is the best time for salmon fishing?

The best time to come for dedicated salmon fishing in the Lakes Region would be from mid-February and, most assuredly, March.

What fishing techniques can be used for salmon?

Accepted Answer

Chinook salmon will take a fly, cast on either single-handed or two-handed rods. We get more Spey casters each season. Our guides are experienced with all techniques and you can fish for them in the manner that you prefer; spin, Spey, or single-handed fly rod.

Do you have non-fishing activities?

Accepted Answer

For the non-anglers there is whitewater rafting on the upper Petrohue, sea kayaking in Reloncavi estuary, horseback riding in Ensenada or Cochamo, zip lining at Las Cascadas and there are two volcanoes to climb, Osorno starting at Petrohue and Calbuco starting at the lodge. Most of these activities are within 20 minutes of the lodge. There is an extensive handicraft fair in Puerto Montt and many boutiques in Puerto Varas for curiosity or shopping. A great way to spend the day is driving around the 870 sq. km. lake Llanquihue with postcard scenery all along the route. One can do part of Lakes Crossing to Bariloche on Lake Todos Los Santos only as far as Peulla and return in the afternoon. And finally, if one wanted nothing more than to relax in a quiet, peaceful, beautiful place with a good book, no better place can be found but the lodge itself.

How many anglers can stay at the lodge?

We like to have only 6 anglers at a time, but we have often entertained larger groups. We know we can do a superb job only for a limited number of anglers, and that's the only way we want to do it.

What are the lodging accommodations like?

The cabin is comfortable for a couple or even a family of four. Each of the two bedrooms in the main house has a queen size bed and a twin bed, private bath and plenty of space for gear. We can accommodate up to a family of 5 in the cabin.
