Mission Lodge sits on the shores of Lake Aleknagik in the heart of Bristol Bay, one of Earth's most productive wild salmon fisheries. The lodge operates daily fly-out fishing programs via floatplane to remote rivers, creeks, and lakes across the region, including the Nushagak, Agulawok, Agulukpak, Togiak, and Wood River systems, plus access to Katmai National Park waters. The fishing season at Mission Lodge runs from mid-June through September, a prime window to experience the world's most productive wild salmon runs in Bristol Bay. The season kicks off in mid-June with the arrival of King (Chinook) Salmon, the largest and most powerful of the salmon species, often exceeding 30 pounds and offering deep, powerful runs. Following closely, from late June through mid-July, are the Sockeye (Red) Salmon, known for their incredible numbers and vibrant spawning colors, providing both a challenging fight and excellent table fare. As July progresses into August, Chum (Dog) Salmon become aggressive targets, striking flies with force on lighter gear. August also marks the beginning of the Silver (Coho) Salmon run, which continues into early September. These feisty, aerial predators are an angler favorite for their aggressive takes and acrobatic fights. Throughout the summer and into fall, the lodge also offers exceptional fishing for resident species. Trophy Rainbow Trout, some pushing 30 inches, are abundant in clear rivers and spring creeks, readily taking a variety of flies. Lake Trout are found in deep glacial waters and can be targeted early or late in the season. Arctic Char, with their vivid spawning colors in late summer, and aggressive Dolly Varden are plentiful in cold rivers and lakes. For a different kind of thrill, Northern Pike offer explosive topwater strikes in lakes and backwaters. Finally, the elegant Arctic Grayling, often caught on dry flies in clear streams, are a joy to pursue, particularly in the early to mid-season.
