At Grosvenor Lodge, the fishing year is dictated by the incredible runs of Pacific salmon and the aggressive behavior of the resident trout species. The season kicks off in June with the arrival of the Sockeye salmon, a crucial food source for the region's brown bears and a fantastic target for anglers seeking a lively fight on light tackle. As the summer progresses into July and August, the larger King (Chinook) salmon begin their upstream migration, offering the chance for trophy-sized fish that can exceed 40 pounds. This period is prime time for anglers targeting these powerful predators, often employing techniques to present large flies or lures in the main river channels. September and October bring the final salmon runs, with Coho and Pink salmon entering the system. While smaller than Kings, Coho provide relentless action and are known for their acrobatic displays. This is also when the resident Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden become exceptionally aggressive, feeding heavily on salmon eggs and smolts. Anglers can expect explosive strikes and the potential for large trout, with fish in the 20-pound class not uncommon. The lodge typically operates through September, with the exact closing date dependent on weather and the continuation of strong fishing, but the prime trout and late salmon action often extends into early October.
