Esopus Creek Lodge
Type: fishing_lodge | Status: published | Tier: standard | Fishiness: 4/5
Modern fishing lodge with direct access to the upper Esopus Creek.
Esopus Creek Lodge is a modern, purpose-built fishing lodge with direct walk-in access to the upper Esopus Creek — one of the Catskills' most productive and scenic trout streams. The lodge blends contemporary mountain architecture with serious angler amenities: a gear room with individual wader cubbies, a rod-building bench, and a heated boot dryer. After a day on the water, guests unwind in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the creek or gather around the stone firepit. The lodge sits at the gateway to Phoenicia, with easy access to both the famous Portal Pool and the wild upper reaches of the Esopus. Winter guests can ski at nearby Hunter or Belleayre mountains.

Finally, a fishing lodge that doesn't feel like a time capsule. The Creek View King room is gorgeous — heated floors were a godsend after a cold April morning on the Esopus. The gear room is thoughtfully designed with individual cubbies and a real boot dryer. Best of all, I walked out the door and was fishing in 30 seconds.
October weekend on the Esopus. The fall colors were peak, the browns were feeding aggressively, and ending each day in the hot tub overlooking the creek was the cherry on top. The lodge breakfast fueled long days of fishing. Already planning a return trip for spring.
Came for skiing at Hunter but ended up spending half the trip fishing the Esopus. The lodge is perfectly positioned for both. Only ding is that breakfast was continental rather than cooked — for the price, I expected more.
The Esopus is no joke — the portal releases can change conditions in an hour. The lodge staff were incredibly helpful with timing advice and which sections to hit. Wish I'd booked a guide through them. The lodge itself is fantastic though. Will be back better prepared.
