Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing

Status: active

Rob Anderson has guided fly anglers on Pyramid Lake since 2001, building expertise in the seasonal rhythms of the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout and the lake's unique ecosystem. He operates year-round from October through June, with peak sight-casting in spring (March–June) when trout move shallow, and aggressive fall feeding (October–early winter) when fish chase baitfish. Anderson offers both traditional wade and shore fishing as well as specialized float tube and pontoon boat outings for deeper-water opportunities. His approach combines technical dry-fly work with sight-casting instruction, making him a go-to guide for anglers seeking trophy-caliber native cutthroat.

"fishingSeasonsNarrative": "My guiding year on Pyramid Lake is dictated by the seasons and the behavior of the magnificent Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. While the lake is technically open from October through June, the prime fishing often shifts with the weather and the trout's movements. Fall, from October through early winter, offers a fantastic opportunity to chase these giants as they feed aggressively on baitfish. As winter sets in, the fishing can become more challenging but rewards those who brave the cold with the chance at truly enormous fish. Spring, from March through the end of the season in June, is when the trout become more active and move closer to shore, making for exciting sight-casting opportunities. We also offer specialized float tube and pontoon boat outings in the late spring and early fall to target fish in deeper water.",

"whatToExpect": "Days on Pyramid Lake typically begin from Sutcliffe and rotate between shallow-water sight-casting from shore or float tubes, depending on season and conditions. Spring trips (March–June) emphasize sight-casting as trout move closer to shore; fall trips capitalize on aggressive feeding as fish chase baitfish. Float tube and pontoon boat outings in late spring and early fall target deeper water. Trips are weather-dependent and guided by trout behavior and seasonal movements.",
