The fishing year at Seine River Lodge kicks off with the spring post-spawn walleye, often found shallow and near their spawning grounds from ice-out through May. As the water warms into early July, walleye school up in deeper summer holes, a pattern that generally holds through the end of the season in April. Smallmouth bass fishing is exceptional in May and June, with fish shallow on rocky shorelines for pre- and post-spawn action, and topwater lures proving highly effective. Later in the summer, these bass move deeper and school up, often found by anglers jigging for walleye, with trophy-sized fish frequently taken on topwater baits in mid- to late-season. Northern pike are abundant throughout the system, with early season action in shallow bays and a chance at larger fish when jigging for walleye in deeper water. Lake trout are not found on the Seine Chain itself but are readily accessible in nearby Big McCauley Lake, with excellent opportunities in the early morning and evening, particularly when using downriggers or a 3-way swivel rig to reach depths of 50-60 feet. Perch and crappie are present, often encountered incidentally while walleye fishing, and can be targeted with bobber fishing in bays.
