  • 🌟 Staff Appreciation Post 🌟 Our fantastic guiding team- Chris, Owen, KJ, Braeden and Pierce! These guys have spent about 70 days on the water so far this summer and they haven’t skipped a beat. Owen, Chris and KJ are on summer #4 of guiding with us, and Braeden #2. This has been Pierce’s first year of guiding after spending 3 on the docks, and we couldn’t be more proud of him and this first season he’s had. Since early June they have been fishing hard and enjoying every minute of what turned out to be an incredible summer. From non-stop chinook fishing to huge northern coho, plenty of bottom fish, bear & whale watching, and even a surprise sockeye opening, the boys have put on an amazing season for our 2025 guests. If you joined us this summer, you know what we mean! We wish them all the best over the winter and hope to see them all again come spring 2026.https://media.meridiaoutdoors.com/media/accommodation/sointula-lodge/gallery-011.webp

  • This September we are partnered with @seawolfadventures for a fall season. They are offering all-inclusive packages with a focus on curated wildlife experiences and Kwakwaka’wakw culture with their home territory of the Great Bear Rainforest as their backdrop. We are excited & grateful for this new partnership which has already left us with deepened understanding of the land we call home. The September weather has been treating us well too! ☀️https://media.meridiaoutdoors.com/media/accommodation/sointula-lodge/gallery-016.webp
  • 🌟 Staff Appreciation Post 🌟 The ladies who make the lodge go round, our hostesses! From bartending, serving, housekeeping and being best fisherwomen, they are the heart of the lodge. Kennedy, Cadence and Zoë have all been with us for multiple seasons now and have each done their part in refining the onshore guest experience. They are a reliable, supportive and good-natured team! With Zoë off to Edinburgh in the fall for her Masters, Kennedy working on her teaching degree, and Cadence just graduating with her bachelors, we feel lucky to have these smart-cookies for their summers off of school. A big thank you to the three of you for all of your hard work!https://media.meridiaoutdoors.com/media/accommodation/sointula-lodge/gallery-017.webp

  • August Report! 🎣 August has brought a continued strong run of chinook, a ton of hatchery & wild coho, some nice lingcod & halibut and great fishing off the beach at Beach Bistro! Bruce caught a nice 17 pound chinook on a spin cast rod while jigging for coho off Lizard Point! The humpbacks and orcas are here as well as rafts of otters, black bears with their cubs and lots of other wildlife! We can’t wait to see what is to come in the second half of August, and also can’t believe August 15th is already here. We were also very excited to have previous lodge owners Dave & Sally Sund and their friends Jim & Maxine join us for a trip last weekend, which was their first time staying with us since they sold the lodge 10 years ago. Thank you to our all our wonderful guests who have joined us so far, we’ve had so much fun!https://media.meridiaoutdoors.com/media/accommodation/sointula-lodge/gallery-021.webp

"fishingSeasonsNarrative": "Sointula Lodge offers a fishing season that spans from May through October, with the prime months for salmon and halibut fishing being July through October. During May and June, the weather transitions from spring to summer, offering long days with cooler nights, perfect for enjoying the coastal scenery. July and August are the peak of summer, with warm, sunny days and the first sightings of local orca whales. This period also offers the best chance for early morning fog, which typically burns off by noon, revealing stunning coastal vistas. September is a local favorite, characterized by warm days, chilly nights, and spectacular sunsets as the leaves begin to change. October continues the excellent fishing opportunities, with cooler temperatures and shorter days.\n\nFor anglers, the period from July to October is particularly rewarding, as this is when saltwater and river salmon runs are at their best. While bottom fishing is available from May to October, the salmon action truly heats up in the summer months. The lodge provides fully-guided fishing excursions, with experienced guides equipped with top-of-the-line gear, ensuring a premium experience whether you're a seasoned angler or a beginner. The calm, protected waters of the British Columbia coast are rich with aquatic life, offering a unique saltwater fishing experience.",

"description": "Encountering a Pacific salmon is to confront a spectrum of oceanic vitality and spawning grandeur. In the ocean, the coho and chinook (king) gleam in chrome and gunmetal, their deep bodies built for bluewater travel, while sockeyes flush from silver to a shocking, head-to-tail crimson as they approach their natal rivers. Their size is a central part of their legend, from acrobatic 6- to 12-pound coho to the behemoth kings that can eclipse 50 pounds and bend heavy gear into submission. In freshwater, the transformation is profound; males develop the pronounced kype (hooked jaw) and vibrant, mottled hues of spawning dress, turning from sleek pelagic missiles into magnificent, battle-worn river ghosts.\n\nThese are fish of immense journeys, born in the cold, clear gravel of rivers from California's Sacramento to Alaska's Bristol Bay and across the Pacific Rim to Russia and Japan. Anglers pursue them in two distinct arenas: the saltwater realms of the Inside Passage, the Gulf of Alaska, and the nutrient-rich grounds off Vancouver Island, and the epic freshwater corridors of the Kenai River for kings, the Russian River for sockeyes, or British Columbia's legendary Skeena system for all five species. Their life cycle dictates the chase—timing a trip is everything, aligning with the pulsating summer and fall runs that funnel from the vast ocean into specific river mouths and upriver holding pools.\n\nTo target Pacific salmon is to engage with the pinnacle of anadromous sport fishing. The fight is a pure expression of their life force: a chromebright chinook in the salt pounds deep with dogged, tank-like power, while a fresh-run coho explodes in aerial displays. They are the ultimate prize in fly-out lodges and remote river camps, representing both supreme table fare—the rich, orange flesh of a sockeye or a king salmon steak is iconic—and a cultural touchstone. Booking a trip for these fish is a pilgrimage, a chance to test skill and tackle against a creature whose very existence is an epic migration, offering a trophy whose beauty is matched only by its brute strength.",

Anglers know it first by its immense, diamond-shaped body – a left-eyed flounder whose dark, mottled top side, a camouflage of olive, brown, and charcoal, perfectly mimics a sandy or muddy seabed. Its underside is a stark, pearly white. This is no delicate fish; it is built like a door, with a thick, muscular frame. While the average catch runs 15 to 50 pounds, true leviathans push past 300 pounds, with the all-tackle record a staggering 459 pounds. In hand, the sheer girth is humbling, but on the line, the first giveaway is often a heavy, stubborn thump rather than a blistering run.",

"description": "The lingcod is a true character of the Pacific—a muscular, voracious predator wrapped in a suit of shifting blues and greens. Its elongated body, armored with a heavy jaw and a spiny dorsal fin, possesses a distinct prehistoric quality. While average sizes range from 10 to 30 pounds, the species can exceed 60 pounds, with specimens over 4 feet long transforming into barrel-chested behemoths. In the water, anglers know it by a powerful, dogged pull. In hand, the predator's maw of needle-like teeth and the bizarre, often electric turquoise or neon blue color of its flesh stand as unforgettable markers of a successful catch. No two lingcods share the same exact pattern of mottled bronze, brown, and olive camouflage, making each one a unique mosaic of the rocky seafloor.",

We wish them all the best over the winter and hope to see them all again come spring 2026.",

Thank you to our all our wonderful guests who have joined us so far, we’ve had so much fun!",
